Apple Leather "Akibae"
A synthetic leather (PU) blended with apple pomace, tailored into tabi (Japanese split-toe socks) in Gyoda. This is "Akibae," in a crimson like ripe fruit.
A synthetic leather that begins with apples
The peels and pomace inevitably left over from making juice and cider are dried, powdered and upcycled into "apple leather." As a material, it is a synthetic leather (PU) that contains apple-derived ingredients. After more than 100 years of making tabi, this was the material we chose for our next step.
A deep red named Akibae
This model shares its name with an apple variety born in Nagano: a sweet, deep, mature red. The fine grain of the surface and the matte sheen bring out the depth of the color.
Water repellency and easy pairing
The material is water-repellent, so small drops of water can be wiped away. It is soft and shapes easily to the foot, and it goes with denim and wide-leg trousers as well as kimono and yukata (light summer kimono).
